  • About Me:

    I grew up in the middle of nowhere in a small community called Havelock in Nova Scotia, Canada. I attended school and my first university degree back home in Canada before taking the leap to travel across the pond to Nottingham to study pharmacy!  I am very active playing all sports especially ice hockey (typical Canadian sterotype!).   I also love to read and travel!

  • My Work:

    I am the Lead PCN Clinical Pharmacist for my primary care network (PCN) of an amazing team of 5 other pharmacists and one pharmacy technician working across several GP practices.

  • My Typical Day:

    I arrive at work in the morning at the practice/surgery for 9am where in the morning up to lunch-time I have appointments with patients for medication reviews.  In the afternoon I deal with medication queries, prescription requests and improve medication safety and head home at 5pm!  Enjoy having the weekends off!

    From 9am I start my morning medication review clinic – where I have 30 minute appointments to perform a full medication review on patients on multiple medicines. I work with patients to improve their medicines and care and support them with any questions they may have about their medicines and treatment.   I then discuss any queries I may have with a GP and make any changes to treatment that is necessary.  I also ensure all patients have their appropriate blood monitoring and tests up to date to ensure appropriate and safe care.

    I spend the afternoon processing letters from hospital admissions or hospital appointments for patients that may have changes to medications as a result of their visits and review at the hospital.   I also deal with any questions any patients, nurses, GPs and other staff may have regarding medicines.  I also perform clinical audits to ensure patient’s are taking their medicines safely.

    I work very closely with all members of the medical team within as well as outside the practice/surgery.

        What did you want to be after you left school?

        Directly leaving high school I knew I wanted to move into healthcare but wasn’t sure which field at the time. Took me a few years to figure that out!

        Were you ever in trouble at school?

        I was always heavily involved in all extra-curricular sports and keeping up with my studies so didn’t leave me much time to mess about at school!

        What's the best thing you've done in your career?

        Organised and Co-ordinated the COVID-19 Booster Vaccination programme rollout into general practice/surgeries within my Primary Care Network from the mass vaccination sites –  providing training and supporting staff across the entire city.

        What or who inspired you to do your job?

        I have always wanted to be involved in healthcare and helping/supporting people with their health.  I enrolled onto a pharmacology course during my first Bachelor of science degree which sparked my interest in pursuing a career in pharmacy.

        If you weren't in healthcare, what job would you do?

        I would be a teacher!  Most of my siblings are teachers!

        If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
