About where we work:
At the moment at work we are wearing face masks and /or face shields because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Patients either come and see us in person or they can ask for a telephone appointment instead-its often possible to help with problems over the phone but it’s not so good for patients with new problems or those who need to be examined. Last week a lady with a rare condition affecting the way her ribcage muscles work called on the phone to ask for some antibiotics as she thought she had a chest infection-she had been coughing for a few days. I couldn’t really decide if she needed this treatment over the phone -so I asked her to come to the surgery instead. We have to try and be flexible-it can be better for people to stay at home when they are ill but it’s often better for doctors and nurses to see them in person so they can examine them-in this case I needed to listen to her chest (with a stethoscope), check her oxygen levels (we use a device called a pulse oximeter for this) and check her temperature.

How we work together as a team:
We work hard as a team but we also have fun together too-this is us at our Christmas party just before lockdown. We’ve also done a charity 5k run and breakfast together last year-this year our challenge is a Pretty Muddy 5K event at Holme Pierrepoint.

How we would spend the prize money:
We would use the money to set up a poster competition that best illustrates what you have learned about a career in health care.
